Supermileage Vehicle
From September 2013 to April 2014 I worked 7am-10am Monday through Friday with eight other students and a professor building Brigham Young University's Supermileage Vehicle. I spearheaded building an all-new carbon fiber monocoque body, integrating the structural frame, engine mount, firewall and hatch. We competed at two international competitions, achieving 1,716mpg and 5th place at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas and 1,211mpg and 3rd place at the SAE Supermileage Competition. In addition to falling in love with building a vehicle from the ground up, I found myself functioning as a spiritual leader for the team. I developed passion for encouraging fellow engineers to develop and pursue their ideas in the face of failure.
