Composite Bridge

What started out as a class project January 2012 ended as an international SAMPE competition winner. Tasked with building the lightest composite "bridge" capable of withstanding 10,000 pounds of force, my team and I designed and fabricated two winning bridges for the national and international competition arenas. We design a carbon fiber layup schedule, employed composite laminate theory and finite element analysis to model loading and failure and learned composite fabrication techniques to manufacture the bridge.
